In August 1947 a disaster was averted at the Micklewood railway bridge. When a lorry crashed, the driver was dangling in his cab over the railway line. The Station Master at Dorrington (Mr N J Bowers) quickly messaged the Signalman at Leebotwood (Mr T Evans). Evans rushed to put his signal to danger, which stopped the northbound express train. The grateful driver was then rescued from his cab.

Clare Price (née Cookson) remembers a near miss in the late 1960s when she was about eight. She had made a play house in the chicken run at the Well House under the Lawley. It had a wheel hub for a pretend mirror. She decided it needed a fire in the hearth, so set one with twigs. The grass and fields were very dry at the time, and the wind very quickly whisked the flames away across the bracken at the bottom of the hill and on towards Comley. A long scoot of land was burned. Workmen from The Green raced up to try to prevent it causing more damage, and two fire engines from Church Stretton had to be called. The fire was heading for Lawley Farm, so they doused the buildings with water to prevent them catching fire too. It was quite a drama. Clare got a slap on the legs with a wet towel for her trouble.

In August 1957 Mary Russell and her baby son, Ian, had a lucky escape on the A49 at Longnor.
